the bat found himself another bird

When she had finally woken up after her night with Ollie, Dinah was in a bad mood. Granted, she’d given him permission to leave when he wanted to, but she would trade her cry before she’d admit that she wanted him to stay. Still, there was nothing she wanted more right now than to avoid the man and get some work done. So far, she hadn’t seen even a hint of green.

When she reached the surveillance room, she found herself alone with the only person who might actually be in a worse mood than she was. Batman was hunched over one of the monitors, staring intently at the words written there.

For just a moment, she considered leaving him to brood. Heaving a sigh, Dinah stalked forward, dropping rather heavily into the open seat next to the man.

He wasn’t quite hunched but he was analyzing some sensitive information that he didn’t want the other Leaguers prying their eyes onto. Bruce heard the blonde make her way into the room and take a seat besides him but yet he continued working away on the computer, so he could leave before she strikes up any sort of conversation with him.

Batman was tracking down a few villains he had heard that escaped Belle Reve. The League has access to some intel and surveillance cams set up in and around Belle Reve that he didn’t because of his great focus in Gotham. Finding every little thing he can, he had finally begun to download them.

Dinah smiled ruefully when he didn’t even bother to kick her out. It was obvious he was focusing. “Must be bad…” Dinah peeked at him through her peripheral vision but his jaw barely even clenched. She debated on talking at him much more but figured he might just stalk out. He was more welcome company than the cheery people running around here.

“Would it trouble you if I tagged along? A little extra muscle for whatever case you’re working?” She didn’t ask if he wanted her, because he’d never admit it if he did. She wouldn’t tell him how much she wanted to kick some ass right now.

When he turned to leave, that’s when she spoke about tagging along. It was quite evident something was bothering her and if that were the case and she were to tag along, something would be bothering him as well….so he stopped and turned on his heel ever so slightly to look at her. “What is bothering you, Dinah? It’s obvious you’re only trying to let off some steam at Oliver by tagging along with me.”

It always amazed her how he seemed to know everything about anything. “So what if I am? Haven’t you ever been pissed off and needed to let out that frustration?” She was surprised that he’d even asked though. When he turned to leave, normally Bruce kept walking. Dinah swiveled her chair around and stood up. “Can I come along… please?” she added.

He knew she needs to let out some steam, it’s just the reply he was hoping for. He could use her as a decoy, making it a win/win situation…though to be honest, he doesn’t really care if it were a win for her. It’s not as important as what is at stake here and that’s finding the two members of Waller’s Suicide Squad that had up and left in the middle of a mission. “I’ll bring you along only,” he was now beginning to growl a little to let her know the seriousness of the mission, “if you play by my rules.”

Dinah nodded once, following him out of the surveillance room. “Whatever, you say.” She smiled though. It wasn’t the first time she’d followed along with his orders and she hoped it wouldn’t be the last. ‘We make a pretty good team,’ she’d never say it out loud. Neither would he.

They reached the teleport pads, beaming down to earth with the same tingling feeling in her gut, every time. “So what or who are we going after?”

Upon teleporting back down to Earth, he glanced at the woman, “you’ve heard of the Suicide Squad, right? Well, apparently Waller had recruited Poison Ivy and Slipknot for a mission not realizing that they would escape, especially when they had been so ‘good’ so far. She had been careless, I have reason to suspect that Poison Ivy is controlling Slipknot for her benefit using her pheromones to get him to bid to his will.”

He turns looking at her, “this is where you come in. I can use you as a decoy for you to perform a frontal attack as I come around to flank her. Slipknot will be the easier of the two to take down, but Ivy will be our problem. I think you understand what needs to be, they should be located about half a mile from our current location.”

“I can do that.” It wasn’t the first time she’d been the distraction and it wouldn’t be the last. Dinah had face Slipknot before. He had strength on her but she was faster and more agile. If need be she could easily scream at him, but that might not do well for discretion.

It was Poison Ivy that was the unknown factor. Personally, Dinah had only crossed paths with the toxic woman once. From what she had heard, Ivy had a new pollen every time she escaped Arkham. Dinah wondered if Batman carried enough anti-toxin to share.

He was actually expecting her to use her cry, it will be how he knows Slipknot is down so he can take care of Ivy. Batman always carried enough anti-toxin for at least two. He was always prepared, it was in part that made him Batman and separated him from Bruce Wayne who has Alfred do everything for him.

Bruce knew Ivy and how to deal with her, the woman was her plants as her plants were her. He left Dinah quickly and began to plant all sorts of traps for Ivy and her plants. He was working stealthily and quickly.

Dinah made her way through the front of the park where Bruce had told her the troublesome duo would be. There was a green house situated near the center that was supposed to be closed for the evening, yet the soft flicker of shadows was unmistakeable. Dinah carefully slid the door open so the bell didn’t ring, closing it just as quietly. The green house was huge and humid. She had barely worked, but Dinah could already feel sweat gathering at the back of her neck.

No… There was another feeling. Dinah dropped to the ground, kicking behind her before the rope could reach around her. She heard a grunt, but Slipknot didn’t hit the ground. He recovered, charging forward.
