Rose attempts to sneak up being Tim. Since the shooting, she’s moved back into the Titans Tower out of stubbornness, and she also figured that the Bats were done with the forensics side of the investigation, and figured the damn place needed to be cleaned up. She hadn’t expected Tim to be there - so, might as well practice her sneaking.
Tim resumes swiping the floor in short, swift motions. There’s a little smile on his face as he refuses to turn around and acknowledge Rose. Honestly, she should know better.
It’s true, she should. She leaps on Tim (not hard, certainly not enough to topple him or anything, just her fingers digging into his shoulders as her feet leave the ground for a couple seconds) with a roar, and then falls back and smacks his back. “You totally knew I was behind you. Asshole,” she says, but there’s not vitriol in her voice.
Tim allows her to pounce and steadies his balance of the broom until she’s off his back. He snorts and turns, arching an eyebrow at her. “You totallly knew that I knew and you still did it, now who’s to blame here for that failed ambush?” he replies with a small smirk.
Rose snorts and flicks her white hair back. “Well if you weren’t Red Robin, I woulda got you. It’s practice,” she decides, and then looks around. Heading over to the window, she picks up the broken glass that’s strewn there. “So you sweeping means I can clean this place up, yeah?” She looks over to the dried blood on the floor, and tries to feel nothing about it.
Tim decides not to get into a discussion about that while they’re still being friendly for the time being. Instead he focuses on the mess surrounding them and nods. “Steph, Cass and I investigated this scene for days. There shouldn’t be any surface left that we haven’t examined. Figured that if we want to update our security system, we need to clean up and fix that gaping hole,” Tim says pointing the broom towards the broken window.
Rose nods in agreement, making a face. “Being responsible is such a drag sometimes.” She picks up more shards of glass, dragging over a trash bin to put them in. “So…you given any more thought on the whole leader thing? Of the Titans, I mean. Mia brought it up, but then I can’t remember what happened.”
Tim must admit seeing Rose with the clean-up is surprising, pleasantly surprising. There’s a thankful smile on his face as he continues with his chore, lips frowning at the postponed leader-of-the-titans-issue. He’s still not certain why Mia sounded offended when Bai and Kon assumed Tim would take the job. “The Titans still have to come together to discuss the matter. I hope it’ll calm Mia down a bit. She wasn’t happy about Bai and Kon nominating me as leader.”
Rose snorts again. “Mia doesn’t give a shit.” At least, Rose doesn’t think she does. Mia could be changeable sometimes, but Rose is contrary so that’s why they make good friends. “She just wanted to bring it up because of stupid Zach.” Rose pauses in cleaning and looks over at Tim. “You know how Zach can be. He doesn’t care….except he cares.” She rolls her eye. Again - a trait Rose shares in common with Zach - for different reasons, and about different things.
Tim sighs. Well, yes, he figures it’s all about Zach, but hoped not truly talking to the magician and therefore not getting on his bad side (or good side for that matter) would better their teamwork. “What’s his problem, seriously,” he grumbles. Tim can guess, but it’s still annoying. Tightening his grip on the broom, he uses it as a hockey stick to remove shards of glass and other rubble to a corner where he’s been gathering junk for an hour now.
"You two don’t get along much do you." She pauses and asks, half-teasing. "Who DO you get along with?" Rose asks this as she heads to one of the bathrooms, to get a container of bleach.
Tim sends her a tiny glare. It’s not like he’s infamously friendless, thank you very much. “I’ll have you know that there are enough people who enjoy my company!” he calls after her, perhaps sounding a bit more offended than intended.
"Yeah, like who?" Rose says in the bathroom, and then emerges. She shrugs and flicks her hair back. "And don’t even try to throw this back at me. I don’t have any friends, except for Mia and maybe Kon." She says ‘maybe’ only because she still finds it hard to believe someone so inherently good could like someone like her. "And Eddie," she adds, but she sounds defensive about that. "Maybe you should join me in the no-friends club."
Tim almost scoffs. “I don’t need to join such a club. I have Kon and Bai and Dick and Steph and Cass and-” he falls silent and feels his cheeks heat up. This is childish, he thinks pressing his lips together. “What I mean is,” he clears his throat, “it doesn’t matter how many people you befriend, as long as they’re devoted.”
Rose is smirking at first, listening to Tim rattling off the names of all his little friendsies - but what he says after actually resonates with her. Her smile fades, but she hides it by dumping some bleach on the blood stain. “Shit. Maybe I should’ve used that enzymatic shit on this, not just bleach.” Then after a moment, she says, “Mia’s devoted.”
Tim watches Rose and wrinkles his nose as the strong scent of bleach hits him. He waves a hand in her general direction, moving further away. “Give it them and bleach will do,” he tells her feeling the urge to sneeze, but not allowing it. He exhales roughly. “She is,” he has to agree even if he feels uncomfortable around her ever since the leader matter. “I know she means well. I’m just not.. very close friends so..” he falls silent, awkward.
"Yeah well," she gives Tim a wry smile. "It’s not like any of us are easy to know. That’s why we call ourselves the tsundere Titans. Like that stupid manga trope." She rolls her eye again, because she’s coming too close to being friendly with Tim, and she wants to make sure to keep the distance there. Just in case.
Tim snorts softly. Tsundere Titans doesn’t sound half bad. “And then there are Titans like Kon and Bai who get along with almost everyone,” he mentions with pursed lips. “Kind of admiring, in a way, being able to befriend people easily.” Should he ask Kon about telling him how to come off more friendly and risk being teased about it for months to come? He shakes his head.
Rose nods. “Yeah. And Blondie. Your ex…?” she inquires. She’d heard rumors around the Titans gossip mill about him and Batgirl. “Bai was so annoying when she was Impulse, I don’t know how the fuck you and Kon put up with her. But yeah, since she’s all aged-up now, she…changed. We get along now.”
"Steph is special," he tells Rose and pats himself on the back for not feeling embarrassed over telling the truth even if they are no longer in a relationship. "And.. I guess Bai is too, which is why they fit together," he explains slowly, grinning at the memory of finding out they were together. "Kon and Bai always complain I brood too much though, that is tiring to hear. Other than that, they are fun to hang out with."
"You do brood too much," Rose agrees. "Which is why you’re in the Tsundere Titans. We all hate everything. Even Blondie can get a little snippy, if I poke her right." Rose sneers a smile, in pleasure. After more scrubbing and cleaning - they both know how hard it is to get blood out of things - Rose eventually gathers the trash. "I’ll get rid of this. It was…good talking to you," she adds grudgingly.
Tim shakes his head at her. ‘You’re so rude,’ he wants to tell her but holds his tongue. For once they aren’t bickering and only an idiot would instigate Rose like that. He looks surprised once more when her words register, leaving him a tad awkward. “Yes.. we should.. do that more often..” he replies uncertain if that’s seriously a good idea.
Rose looks at him for a moment, and then says, “Nahhh.” Although as she turns away, she knows better. They both live in Titans Tower, and they share a mutual friend in Conner. She might as well try to get along with Tim….at least for the time being. “See you around, shorty.”
