Gar had never been to Mia’s house before, the Archer house. It wasn’t like they had it when Roy was younger, and he always hung out at the Tower anyway. But he was all for it, and seeing her new puppy was always a plus. Not more of a plus then spending time with Speedy though. Alright so she wasn’t around and couldn’t hear his thoughts so he knew he didn’t have to lay it on that thick, but he really did like hanging out with her. Mia was fun, who didn’t like spending time with her?
He flew to the house before, because it was really just quicker that way, before turning from an eagle to his regular form and knocking on the front door.
Mia sat on the floor of the living room playing with her dog. Who didn’t have a name yet but she was thinking on it. It didn’t really matter because she was just so damn cute. Mia tossed the plush squeaky toy across the floor and watched her chase after it then come back shaking it in her mouth and chewing on it making it squeak. She bushed back her bangs and leaned over kissing the puppy on her head. “You’re so cute!” She said petting her.
Looking across the floor as the door bell rang Mia popped up off the floor and headed over to the door opening it and grinning at Gar. “Hey!” She said and opened the door wider for him to come in watching the puppy dash out the door. “No! Wait!” Mia called running after her.
Gar smiled and opened his mouth to say hi watching the puppy run out the door. Ah, should have seen that one coming. “Wait.” Gar said holding his arm out and catching Mia by the waist. “Don’t run after her she’ll think you’re playing. Run away from her she’ll start chasing you.” He turned into a puppy himself, a golden retriever puppy, or a green retriever puppy and started running around the yard getting Mia’s puppy’s attention, “Yeah. C’mon. Follow me!” making her chase after him.
Mia watched Gar as he turned into a puppy and started running across the yard with her Puppy getting her to follow him and then coming back towards the house. Mia caught her Puppy as she ran past and headed into the house closing the door behind her and Gar. “Thanks a lot!” She said and grinned over at Gar. “Does that work even without the animal morphing powers?” She’d have to remember that in case the puppy ever got out again.
“Anyway, Gar this is my puppy.” Mia said sitting down on the floor again with the dog toys. “I think I’m going to name her Kiki.”
Gar trotted into the house and turned back into his regular human form looking around with mild curiosity. He walked towards Mia and sat down with her on the floor reaching out for the puppy and scratching her behind the ears. “Cute name. I think she likes Kiki.” He grabbed a toy and tossed it across the room for the puppy to chase after. “She’s really cute. Is she potty trained and all that yet? I can help with that if you need it…” Gar shrugged his shoulders. He wasn’t an animal trainer or anything, but he could more or less communicate with them and help them understand what they were being taught…
“Ollie thought of it.” Mia said and shrugged her shoulders. Maybe she would give him that, he hadn’t really exactly wanted a dog in the first place. And hadn’t had any choice in helping her pick one out. So, maybe she’d give him the naming thing. It kind of seemed more fair. “I think so.” Mia said when he asked if she was potty trained. “As much as puppies can be, I’m sure if she gets excited or scared or has to wait too long she’ll have accidents. Don’t tell Ollie that though.” She said.
Stretching her legs out in front of her the puppy came up jumping over them excitedly and Mia smiled. “You’re so cute!” She said hugging her closely. “I’ve never had a pet before. So excited!”
“Her secret is safe with me.” Gar said holding his hands up before settling back against the foot of the couch leaning his elbow up on it and watching Mia with her puppy. “You really never had any pets before?” He asked and smiled slightly. He just thought someone who seemed to want one so badly would have had some kind of pet sometime. “Y’know, you really could have just asked me. I would have taken over the job.” Gar added with a smirk on his face laughing slightly.
“Yeah..” Mia said quietly petting the puppy, Kiki she guessed was her name now. “Yeah, I never really had pets when I was little. Once when I was in like… first grade a cat followed me home though. But I didn’t keep her.” Like her dad would have ever let her keep it… She looked up at Gar and grinned. “You would have taken over the job as my pet?” She asked and arched an eyebrow at him but smirked back. “You don’t think that’s a little degrading?”
“Aw, that’s sad.” Well, not that having pets really got him any where good but someone who wanted one so bad should have one. “But you have Kiki now! Which I’m sure makes up for all those lonely years without her.” Gar laughed and shrugged his shoulders. “Nah.” He said grinning a little bit. “I’m sure you’d treat me with the utmost respect.” It would be a little degrading and obviously he was kidding. He was a superhero, not someones pet. No matter how cute Mia was.
Mia nodded her head. Yeah. He kind of had no idea how sad it was. But she wasn’t really one to ever like to think about her childhood, much less talk about it in anything more then passing. Even if Gar knew about her being HIV positive it wasn’t like he knew how or why or anything about her past. Mia rolled over onto her stomach wrinkling her nose as Kiki licked her face. “I’d treat you like a little prince.” She said and nodded her head. “You would sleep in my room and everything.” She added winking at him.
“That does sound like a pretty sweet deal.” Gar said in a fair voice and nodded his head. He couldn’t see Green Arrow being thrilled about that arrangement though. He seemed pretty protective over Mia. More so then he had ever been over Roy. Probably had something to do with him… learning from the… never being around thing with Roy. Not that Gar was judging! “It’s too bad you have Kiki now or I’d have to take you up on that. And that’d probably cause some problems…”
Mia nodded her head and grinned at Gar. But he was right, she let out a dramatic sigh and shrugged her shoulders. “I guess we missed the opportunity while it was still around.” Though he was right. Not that she actually had, or would consider keeping Gar for a pet. But the reaction Ollie would give would just be hilarious. She sat up again and leaned closer to him. “Well, what GA didn’t know wouldn’t hurt him.” She pointed out and tossed Kiki’s toy across the room again.
He noticed how she leaned closer to him when he leaned into her and smiled slightly. And if she weren’t clearly giving him signals then his name wasn’t ridiculous… But she was only 17, and he could flirt with whoever he wanted to… but more? And the last thing he needed was her dad finding out he madeout with Mia. Or anyone else in her family. “So, do you have everything you need for her?” He motioned to the puppy who was now running around the house squeaking on her toy excitedly. “The first few nights in a new place is supposed to be the scariest.”
Mia took note of the brush off and though she knew it probably wasn’t because of it, in her mind tons of probably untrue reasons why it happened flitted around. Like because he was uncomfortable or something around her, because of her HIV status, because she was… dirty. She sat back up straighter and shrugged her shoulders. “I’m sure she’ll be fine.” She said pushing the thoughts to the side. Or trying to. “She seems really comfortable here. She’s probably going to tire herself out soon.”
He wasn’t stupid. And he did notice the vast change in her demeanor in a second and he felt kind of bad about it. “Yeah, but she’ll be up in a few hours, trust me. Puppies recover easily.” Gar leaned back against the couch again running his fingers along the floor absently as he watched Mia for a few moments in silence. “… Sorry.” He said suddenly and frowned. “You’re mad now aren’t you?” Yeah, he was always good at making people mad and screwing up happy moments. Great job.
“No.” Mia said quickly and looked over at him shaking her head. “I’m not mad it’s fine.” She said in a reassuring voice. Because… it was. It was totally fine. She moved to sit next to him leaning against the couch and shrugged her shoulders. “It’s not like I don’t understand.” The blonde pointed out. Sure. She totally understood. “I mean… like… it’s fine. I get it.” She waved her hand in dismissal and reached out scratching Kiki behind the ears trying her best not to be frowny but… she didn’t know how well she pulled that off.
He was pretty sure she didn’t get it, actually. “You don’t understand what?” Gar said and furrowed his eyebrows. And then it hit him what she probably thought was going on. “Mia, it’s not because… y’know… you’re HIV positive or anything.” He said his eyes widening at her. No, it wasn’t that at all. I mean.. he was just thinking about kissing her. “It’s just…” He trailed off for a moment and laughed weakly. “I kinda have the Peter Pan syndrome thing down but I am twenty-one. And you’re seventeen.” And that was illegal in the state of California even with the close age law.
Mia couldn’t help the ‘yeah, ok sure’ look that crossed her face when he said it wasn’t about her being HIV positive. Until he explained what the reason actually was and Mia scoffed. “Seriously?” That was so unfair! It wasn’t even that big of a deal. Mia rolled her eyes and crossed her arms over her chest sliding down farther on the floor because obviously pouting was going to make her seem older then she was… “It’s not even that big of a difference! I’ve been with guys like over twenty years older then me! This isn’t even that big of deal!” Ugh and she probably shouldn’t have said that.
“I didn’t make the laws Mia.” He said kind of amused by her reaction. It actually kind of boosted his ego a little bit. But that was only for a second before she went on to the last part of her statement and he frowned at her. “Wait… what?” He said quietly. And then… it kind of hit him he never really wondered how she had contracted HIV before. And maybe it was stupid to assume that it was something like a blood transfusion or something… Then it hit him that she might not actually want to talk about any of this with him. “I— I mean, you don’t have to tell me what you mean.” He said back tracking and shrugging his shoulders. “It’s fine.”
Mia chewed on her bottom lip for a while looking at her hands. “No,” She looked over at Gar and shrugged her shoulders. “It’s ok, Gar.” After a breath Mia straightened up again. “Uhm… Before Ollie found me I… was a sex worker. That’s how I contracted HIV… maybe.” Or the dirty needles and… whatever. It really didn’t matter. It was all a means to an end… Or however that saying went. “And it’s just like… not fair how now when I even want to do anything with someone I can’t because like I just have to be super cautious about everything. And like I can’t even kiss anyone because I’m too young.” She looked back at her hands again and rolled her eyes. “It never mattered when I didn’t want to…”
She stayed silent for a moment and shook her head. “Sorry. I really shouldn’t be… putting all of this on you. It’s fine. We can just hang out.” She reached out and grabbed the squeaky toy that Kiki dropped next to her sitting and waiting patiently for her to throw it again. Mia tossed it farther this time making it a little more challenging for the puppy this time.
It felt a little like a punch in the stomach when Mia explained to him what happened to her. Even worse that she was so… matter of fact about it. And her last comment made him almost audibly groan because… it wasn’t fair. Mia was great and she.. had to deal with all this shit and it wasn’t fair. “Mia—” But she brushed it off and he watched her as she tossed the dog toy again. “Mia…” Gar said again more firmly and reached over pulling her into a hug. “You can put anything you want on me, Titans, remember…” His fingers curled into her ponytail and pulled away slightly his eyes flicking to her lips then back up to her eyes almost with a challenging sort of look.
“Yeah sure.” Mia said quietly when he hugged her. She closed her eyes for a moment before taking a deep breath when he pulled away. Finally opening her eyes again she watched him for a moment meeting his look. She stayed silent briefly before sighing. “Come on! Are you going to kiss me or not?” The blonde rolled her eyes and shook her head. “Of course I have to do all the work.” She muttered pressing her lips to his smiling slightly against him.
He laughed slightly when she made the first move and he had to admit that it kind of made him feel a little better about the whole thing? Ugh, no it was still illegal. And he was pretty sure he would still get his ass kicked by GA if he ever found out. And frankly with Gar’s luck he’d probably walk in right now or something. Oh well. Who cared right? He moved one of his hands from her shoulder and slid it down her side slowly grabbing her waist and pulling her closer.
Mia let him move his hand down to her waist and pull her towards him more. And this was the first time she had actually been close to a guy, and kissed a guy since she met Ollie. Well besides Connor but she didn’t think that counted. And it was so nice. She ran her nails up his neck very lightly and grasped the back of his head pulling him in a better angle for her and parted her lips slightly. And still wasn’t able to help the small curve of her lips as she smiled against him.
He would definitely have to admit that Mia was very good at this kissing thing. But he made himself not think about why or how she was so good at it. It was probably best not to think about that now. And the way she parted her lips against his made it pretty easy to forget. Gar nipped at her bottom lip before his tongue carefully licked across the nip and moved past her lips. His hand slid down farther on her waist to her lower back slowly but totally surely to her ass.
Mia’s eyes closed when he bit at her bottom lip and let out a low humming sound feeling his tongue against hers. This was nice. Her and Connor’s kiss hadn’t had any tongue he was too stingy for that. Gar obviously wasn’t. She felt his hand slide down her back to her butt and made a noise that was half a laugh and half a moan and moved up to her knees and onto his lap straddling one of his thighs. Pulling away for a second Mia looked around for Kiki noticing her already laying on her doggy bed probably asleep then looked back at Gar. “Just had to check on the kid.” She said in a low voice pressing her lips to his again in a sure motion this time her tongue pushing past his.
“Miaaaaaa, I picked up those weird cinnamon rolls you asked for, although what’s wrong with the ones *I* get I still don’t—”
Oliver Queen stopped stock-still, staring at the tender romantic tableau before him. With that green kid’s hand clutching his daughter’s butt.
“You have just under a nanosecond to have an explanation for this that won’t make me get my bow,” he said in what he thought was a very level and calm voice. Considering that his face was slowly turning a livid shade of beet red, Mia and Gar probably wouldn’t agree.
Gar moaned in the back of his throat when she moved into his lap and almost pulled her back when she looked around. But smirked instead, “Good to see you’re a responsible parent” He said before she dove back in to resume their kissing.
Though it was cut short when the door opened and a voice came in. And it took a moment for him to realize actually because of what Mia was doing with her tongue was super distracting. But he did, he knew it! He knew this was going to happen! Gar moved from under Mia and jumped up quickly looking around. He fought the urge to just turn into some small animal or insect and hide so he could leave, though he wasn’t sure why. “Uh—” He said and glanced at Green Arrow. “Hi! I was… just helping Mia… with her dog. Kiki! Cute name by the way she said you came up with that one! Awesome. Uh… I should… go?”
“Fuck.” Mia said quickly practically being flung off of Gar as he stood up. She stayed on her place on the floor for a moment watching him stammer and grimaced. “God you’re smooth.” She stood up next to him and looked at Oliver a cringe on her face. “I kissed him.” Mia said and shrugged her shoulders. “Because I wanted to. I mean he wanted to as well, obviously. But I invited him over to see Kiki and… kissed him.” Because… that was what happened. Honesty was the best policy right?
If not, Gar could turn into a little flea or something and flee.
“Beat it,” Ollie snarled at Gar, who gave a nervous little salute, shot Mia an apologetic look, and hastily scarpered. Ollie put down the cloth grocery bag with the cinnamon buns and took a deep breath before turning back to Mia, who was looking somewhere in between mutinous, worried, and exhilarated.
Boy, were his kids all of a bunch, or *what*.
“I’m not gonna jump on you for who you choose to date, Mia,” he started. “But …”
Ollie considered. What could he actually say here that wouldn’t sound completely hypocritical? When Kyle and Connor had been smooching or patting each others’ hair or whatever it was they did in Connor’s bedroom, when *he* was having Kate over on quiet nights or going to her place in LA, oh and also getting handjobs from Hal in that damn guest room?
“…uh,” he finished weakly. “Keep the makeout stuff in your room, okay?”
Mia watched Gar go and waved at him before looking back at Ollie as he spoke. She crossed her arms over her chest and frowned for a few moments. Though her resolve broke and she slid down onto the couch and sighed. “You know, I think most parents want to keep their kids and… the people they makeout with out of their rooms. Y’know… to take the privacy away.”
That’s what happened on TV at least. Though she guessed their situation was a little different than TV. She looked up at Ollie and smiled slightly. “Thanks for… trying to keep your calm though. But it’s not like we were going to do more then kiss.”
“I know.” He crouched down in front of Mia, taking her hands in his. “I know you wouldn’t do anything reckless when it comes to this. It’s not you I have doubts about, honeybunch — it’s the boys. Dad’s prerogative, right? To be suspicious of the whippersnappers who come sniffing around my pretty daughter?”
It was a lot more than that, and they both knew it. Gar was a nice enough kid, but Ollie figured that you never knew how somebody would react to hearing a history like Mia’s until it happened. And by then, it would be too late to prevent Mia from getting hurt.
Mia rolled her eyes, though in a good natured type of way and smiled at Ollie. “Fine. But really… I was the one who invited him over and seduced him with my adorable puppy.” Or something like that at least… She laughed slightly. “Whippersnappers? Seriously? You’re so old.” She looked past Ollie as Kiki came running over squeaking her toy and sniffing Oliver. “Awwww, look! She came to say hi! Aw, Ollie. She loves you.” Mia cooed and grinned leaning forward again petting the puppy.
“Of course she loves me, she’s dependent on me for feeding and housing. Just like some other girls I know.” Ollie held a hand up and watched the puppy jump, clapping her paws together and biting at his fingers. “She *is* awfully cute. Just make sure I keep thinking that, and don’t change my mind due to chewed belongings and unsightly pet stains.”
Ollie stood up and kissed the top of Mia’s head. “Tell that kid Beast Boy I’m not gonna kill him,” he said. “But you might wanna suggest that I’d maim him if he doesn’t act right. Just to keep him on his toes, y’know.”
“Pssh.” Mia said in response to Ollie and watched him with Kiki for a moment. “If that happens it’s not her fault! She’s just a baby. Babies pee and chew on things.” She pointed out and shrugged her shoulders. “They don’t know any better. She is pretty house trained though. But like… accidents happen.” She took the squeaky toy and tossed it across the room again looking up at Ollie as he stood.
“Sure. I’ll be sure to let him know that you’re not a guy who screws around with… guys who screw around.” She smiled slightly. “I’ll put the fear into him for you Ollie. Because if he did it lord knew what would even happen.
