friendly chat
Three tenths of a second after he’d sent his last text, Wally immediately wished he hadn’t. Staring at the phone in his hand, he cursed his own stupidity, gripping at his hair a bit. Great…why had he thought this was a GOOD idea anyway?
Even though he drug his feet, he STILL left about 2 minutes later, arriving at the door and just staring at it. This was probably the dumbest thing he’d done in a long time, but…well whatever. Given the circumstances, he and Roy had a LOT to talk about. A whole lot.
He finally raised his hand and knocked, the motion rapid, barely belying his nervousness.
Roy regrets saying yes. Mostly because he feels like this is an ambush in some way. That Wally’s going to come in here, bags ready and Dick at his side with some goofy grin and a weak apology.
Forgive him for thinking he’s going to get kicked out. God he knew this was stupid. What the fuck was wrong with him? Mom was right about one thing. The fearless kid had gone and turned tail. Where he was now though…Roy didn’t know.
Pacing the room he collected what was left of his resolve. He rushed to the door, opening it and smiled loosely as he dragged Wally inside. “Told you it was open, silly.”
Wally smiled, the light of it never really reaching his eyes as he was hauled inside. Straightening his clothes a bit, he looked around quickly before settling his eyes on the archer. For a fleeting instant, he couldn’t help but think that Dick had a thing for red heads, given that both of them were carrot top gingers.
“Sorry, must’ve left before you sent it,” he said, checking his phone. Sure enough, there it was. Pocketing the phone again, he cleared his throat and looked at Roy, completely at a loss for what to say now.
“So…I guess you know why I’m here, right?” he said. “Ah, wait, that sounds awful, let me try again…” He wracked his mind, unable to come up with anything else even MILDLY convincing.
“You’re always so quick to visit, I’ll give you that.” He grinned softly, welcoming as he kicked the door closed and turned back towards Wally when he began to ramble. Roy frowns at that, dawning a serious tone.
“If this is some ploy to trick me you can get out, right now.” He’s usually not so…mean with Wally, but this is a sensitive subject for him. He doesn’t want to talk more about if he can help it. He’s made his decision. He isn’t going to budge.
Wally was a little taken aback by that. Trick him? Trick him to do what? He frowned a little, shaking his head at his words. He shoved both hands in his pockets, shifting his weight nervously. Roy was a bit scary when he got serious.
“I’m not here to trick you, Roy,” he said. “Why would you think that? I just wanted to…Talk.” He shrugged, gaze dropping to the floor a moment. “I mean, we’ve talked a little before, but…” Stomping his foot in frustration, he pulled at his hair a little. “Man I suck at this..”
Roy leaned against the door, crossing his arms as he watched him. He tried not to scowl. He really did. So his expression is set in a lock of anger and understanding and he can see Wally squirm. He doesn’t want this. It’s only going to explode in his face. “This is about moving in, isn’t it? You want to try and convince me to say yes?”
He looked over his clothing and sighing softly. “Look,” he rubbed at his eyes and squeezed the tension out of his face. “I didn’t say no because I don’t want or like you Wally. It’s the opposite of that, okay?”
Once more that gave Wally pause. So Dick had asked…and Roy said no. Well that was good information to have. His face reddened a little, and he cleared his throat and looked away.
“I …didn’t even know Dick had asked you about it,” he said. “I came over to talk to you about it myself, mostly cuz I thought he wouldn’t ask. Or you know…would just tell you or something.” He rubbed the back of his neck, looking Roy up and down.
“Wanted to see how you felt about it and all. Cuz…” He sighed, shoulders slumping as he looked back up at Roy. “Well mostly because I didn’t want to get in the way of..of you guys.”
A stab of empathy hit him in the chest as he watched Wally shift and squirm under his gaze. Dick either had some serious ginger hankering or he just liked falling in love with the ones that were the most self-conscious about relationships. Sighing softly, a little annoyed and more tired than he let on, Roy looked at Wally, frowning.
“Look Wally. If he said he loves you, then he’s telling the truth. It’s just how Dick is….But, I have to be honest with you. Right now—at this moment only—does the thought bother me. Trust me..I wouldn’t care if this was like us as a team all living in the same building again. But it’s not like that at all and that’s why I said no.”
Roy kicked off the door to meet Wally’s fidgeting form as he dragged him further into the house. “C’mon. You look like you’re about to die of dehydration.”
It was good to see Roy relax a little. At least he seemed to realize Wally had come of his own volition, and did NOT bring any coercion along. He leaned into Roy’s side a bit, smiling when he remembered how things had once been. All of them, together, young and brash. Not a lot had changed on his end, but Roy…Roy’d grown up.
Damn his hide.
“Dick loves you, Roy,” he said, giving the other a sidelong glance. “It’s like…you’re all he thinks about. I don’t think he realizes it, and he THINKS he can still do the multiple lovers thing. But…” He laughed, face reddening slightly. “He and I were drinking a little..and talking…and you know, being us. Some reason he thought that was a great time to bring up the fact that you’re movin in.” He shifted out from under the weight of Roy’s arm. “Does that seem fair to you?” There was no note of accusation in his voice, no hint of anger or malice.
There was cuddly Wally and Roy smiled a bit, glad that his mood and-or-slash just being himself entirely hadn’t scared him off. Yet. Damn. He needed a better handle on things. Or risk losing all of his friends. Listening to Wally while they make it into the kitchen Roy frowned as he hefted the speedster up onto the counter.
“No…that doesn’t sound fair at all…” Roy nuzzled Wally to give him sympathetic love and sighed softly. “But…I feel like he thought it was the right time to say it…you know? Nice and quiet…great time for asking lots of questions.”
“Not when there’s impeding sexytimes!” Wally insisted. Getting settled on the counter, he leaned on the heels of his hands, watching Roy closely. Damn those pretty Archer arms and their perfect sculpted…ness.
“How would you feel of Dick was laying on YOU, stark naked, and started talkin about me, huh?” He pouted a little more, one leg kicking as he shook his head. “Upset me, man…especially since that was what I wanted to talk with him about in the first place. Feels like I don’t have a place anymore. Kid Flash and Robin had a thing, but Nightwing and Flash don’t have that anymore. Just wish he’d own up to it…”
Once again his shoulders slumped and he looked like a little kid who had spilled his ice cream on the ground.
Roy was messing with the refrigerator as he listened. Wally was right, Roy would not like that at all. He held back a quip though. Dick would not be distracted by Wally if they were about to have sex.
Maybe…Roy stopped moving around when Wally spoke up about what was bothering him and he frowned. He was going to find out why Dick was attracted to them if they had such similar self conscious thoughts and yet completely different personalities all together.
“You’re right,” He responded, coming back to Wally with a peace offering of beer in hand, “That was quite cruel of him. But, do you know what I think? We should punish him for it.”
Taking the beer, he blinked at Roy curiously. Punish him…He hadn’t really thought of that. But, why punish Dick for what basically boiled down to Wally’s own insecurity? That was just cruel and made no sense. Shaking his head, he took a drink and licked his lips thoughtfully.
“Nah…I don’t think so,” he said. He chuckled a little, turning the bottle in his hand before looking to Roy again. “No point, you know? I mean, even if we did punish him, what good’s that gonna do?” He fell silent a moment, fidgeting before pushing away from the counter top.
“You two make a nice couple anyway,” he said before taking another long drink. “I mean, youguys look good together, andyouknowDickreally really likes you likealot and…” He stopped himself, realizing he was talking too fast.
Roy leaned against the kitchen table, drinking from the can, eyes staring at him. Wally was rambling but he was making sense. Dick was a very sexual and emotional person. He didn’t separate those thought processes from each other. They were one in the same and at times, it was troublesome from both his and Wally’s perspective.
Who did Dick love more?
Who would he choose?
“Don’t you start on that Wally…Dick looks good with whoever he wants to be with..It has nothing to do with me. Although…if we’re talking about cute, you guys definitely have had that close knit thing down since you were Robin and Kid Flash. Cuter now that you’ve gotten so big. Still tall. Punk.” He smirked, teasing tone at the last of his words.
The touch of levity made him smile, a quiet chuckle leaving him. Ever a team, even now. It was true, he had always been closest to Dick. Hell the early days of their team ups, they’d been almost inseparable. But…that was then. Wally’s stomach clenched at the thought, the fear of losing his best friend.
“Not my fault I’ve got good genes,” he said, trying to sound casual. “Was fun havin all you guys look up at me for a while. But hey,” he lightly nudged his leg with his foot. “You caught up. And filled out. I’m still kinda scrawny.”
Once more he fell silent, taking a few more quick drinks of his beer.
“Point is, Roy…I think if he had to chose? He’d go with you.” He offered a sad smile, half shrugging. “And I guess I’m…kinda ok with that. Not happy with it, but..I’ll live.”
“I wouldn’t count yourself short Wally…Dick’s got more…touchy feels with you than he does with me. I would go with what’s comfortable and I think that’s why he’s in this position….He’s comfortable here, in limbo…with the both of us.” Roy sighed though, burying the rest of his resolve with the beer and tossing the can into the recycling bin.
He twirled towards his friend, picking Wally up and back his ass. “Enough of you and somber town Wally. It’s not fun. You’re making my brain hurt with all this doubt. Let’s get you relaxed, I’ll toss a movie on.” He was changing the subject but that was because he wasn’t sure he was ready for that type of thinking just yet. There’s two sides of him that are saying he’ll win out or he’ll lose because of who he is. The fuck up, if there ever was one.
Definitely dampened the hearty mood. Time for some love.
And almost as if on cue, Lian rushed into the living room, literally bouncing as she climbed all over Roy’s leg. “Papa~ You didden say we were gonna have a guestus. Hi~ Walri~”
Wally really didn’t feel like arguing. Like Roy, he would have much preferred just to be happy and go on with things. Problem was while Dick might have WANTED to stay in limbo…Wally didn’t. It was a frustrating place to be, especially for the amount of attention he craved. It was a natural thing for him, he was just needy.
It was hard to be somber when Roy’s little ray of sunshine trotted in. Wally grinned at her, wiggling his fingers in a playful wave when she greeted him.
“Hey there pretty lady,” he said. “Can I get a hug?” He held his arms out pleadingly, giving another inciting wiggle of his fingers.
Lian looked up at Wally and beamed happily, rushing up to hug him as she wrapped her small arms around his neck. Like a koala, she clung to Wally, squeezing him tight and never planning on letting go.
“How’d my little Princess’ nap go?” Roy asked, gently pushing Wally to sit as he grabbed the remote and flicked the television on. Roy was idly moving about, getting them more beer—bringing the rest of the pack—and putting some popcorn in the microwave.
She giggled, nuzzling Wally and animatedly telling them about her dream. “Firs’ I was in this foresty place. And then I was walking around an I founded a sword. But I cudden take it out so I had to run around as-ken to find some won.”
“Dreamed yourself right into the story of King Arthur,” Wally said with a grin. He settled into a seat on the couch, letting the girl make herself comfortable on him as she pleased. It was impossible to be even a little sad when Lian was in the room.
Having her around just reminded him how much he wanted kids of his own someday…which made him think of Linda. Maybe he’d call her or something…Pushing the thought aside, he glanced at the TV, then over to Roy.
“Think your calling her princess has gone to her head,” he teased.
Lian plopped on Wally’s lap, snuggling and squirming until she was finally settled, humming happily as she watched her father flick through movie selections. Glancing up whenever Wally made a comment, Lian didn’t entirely understand what was going on but she knew Wally was picking on her.
Roy smirked though, messing with Wally’s hair as he shook his head. “My little girl can be as far over or as far inside her head as she likes. Princess or not, she’s still the best daughter ever.” He eskimo kisses with Lian and she giggles happily, hugging him briefly before patting Wally’s thighs.
“You can be a princess too, Uncle Walri.” She beamed at him with large wide eyes.
“I can?” Wally said, grinning at Lian. He gave her a little boop on the nose with his finger. “Not sure I’d look too pretty in a tiara and all. What about your daddy? Or is he a prince?” He gave the other red head a sidelong glance, then chuckled and smiled a bit wider. It really was impossible to stay down when Lian was near.
“Been a while since I saw you,” he said. “What have you been up to? Keeping you Daddyo busy, huh?”
“Papa’s the King. Cus I wouldn’t be a princess unless he was.” She beamed back at Wally while Roy smirked at his fellow ginger. Lian hugged him and squeezed. “I play with mai frens and then sometimes Papa comes home earlier and we cook lots~”
She was bouncing and giggly as she nuzzled Wally. Roy on the other hand smirked, messing Wally’s hair. “You’re a princess, huh? How ever will I get you to love me now?”
“Ooooh right right.” He chuckled and looked over at Roy, promptly leaning into the hand in his hair. Get him to love him…bah, like that was hard to manage. Roy was basically the most awesome guy ever, mostly. Even if he was a little rough, he was still nice and surprisingly gentle beneath it all.
“Means you’ve just gotta give me stuff,” he said with a laugh. “That’s what Princesses like, right? Presents and things?”
Roy smirked, while Lian started to mess with Wally’s hair as well. Simply to mimic her father while they playfully fought in the red locks of the Speedster. Roy made a soft considering sound as he looked at Wally’s smile. “You know you don’t need a title for me to get you things.”
“No Papa! That’s how it’s s’posed ta be. Presents an’ lots of em.” Lian chimed in, looking at her father seriously. “Dun be cheap!”
Roy laughed as he arched a brow. “Okay, okay. All the presents for my Princesses.”
Even though he drug his feet, he STILL left about 2 minutes later, arriving at the door and just staring at it. This was probably the dumbest thing he’d done in a long time, but…well whatever. Given the circumstances, he and Roy had a LOT to talk about. A whole lot.
