titans together

“Tim Tim Tim Kon Kon Kon!” Bai ran in circles around the transport tube platform, waiting impatiently for her friends to completely finish materializing. At times like this, when she was really excited, it was hard to slow down to subjective time. Although she had to admit it was kind of neat to see them molecularly reassembling right before her eyes.

Kon grinned and reached out to yank on the back of Bai’s hoodie as she circled them. He might not be a Flash, but superspeed was good for something. “Hey, squirt,” he said fondly. “Miss me?”

Sometimes - like at times like these - Tim would admit to being a little disgruntled that he didn’t have any form of superspeed. It made keeping up with his friends incredibly difficult. Most of the time, though, he was just glad he couldn’t really see it; at least that way, he didn’t get a blinding headache from trying to keep up. He finally focused on them as Kon grabbed her. “There you are.”

“I was here all this time!!” Bai scolded, struggling briefly in Kon’s grasp before hugging him, then zipping over to Tim for a hug as well. “I’ve been here for aaaaages. It’s reallycoolup here, there’s a galley with tons of alien food and as muchofitas you want and there’s all kinds of gym stuff even for freaky-strong people or freaky-flexible people and there’s this arboretum thing wherethere’slike some kind of sexy aura floating around that makes you horny and I already made out with somebody there!”

Bai pulled up in front of Kon, crossing her arms and frowning. “And I’m not a squirt anymore,” she said, pulling up her lanky frame to its full height. “Remember now I’m twenty-four because. Of the Speed Force.” Her voice got reverent, hushed, the way it always did when she mentioned Speed Heaven.

Yeah, that wasn’t weird at all, for his friend to suddenly be eye level and older than he was. “Sorry, Bai,” he said, and looked honestly a little sheepish. “Old habits. To me you’re still that little kid with big feet and those weird goggles.” He ruffled her hair affectionately. “Start over. What’s this about a sexy aura? Because if you mean Black Canary, you gotta hook me up with a piece of that.”

“There’s a room here somewhere that’s full of aphrodisiac,” Tim explained even as he was hugged. And subsequently not hugged again. This was going to take a little getting used to. Just like the fact that Bai was twenty-four. And tall. He was definitely not going to become the “squirt” of the group, and if Kon even tried that, Tim was going to kick his ass.

“Is *that* what it is, an aphrodisiac?” Bai looked impressed. “You figured that out already from just getting here? Orisitwhat you would call an ‘educated guess’? This is something the older Titans went through or something that Dick told you about and Wally never mentioned, isn’tit?” She wrinkled her nose and stuck out her tongue a little at the thought of Wally.

Wheeling back to Kon, Bai elaborated, “Yeah it’s Kid Flash now! Although I dunno about this yellow costume. Whaddyou think, guys?” She swiveled, checking out her butt and heels in the long tight suit. “I kindawasthinking of going back to a red-and-white motif. I feel like a speeding canary in this — and yeah, Kon, BC’s up here and if you’re gonna hit on her, good luck! It’s not like creepy aphrodisiac pollen so I think you’ll have to hope your boosted sexayness appeals to her or something.” Bai grinned and rolled her eyes at Tim. AS IF Kon would have any doubts as to his ability to get action!

Kon had to admit his mouth went a little dry at Tim’s explanation. Smart was just…so sexy sometimes. And speaking of sexy….

He looked Bai’s new costume up and down appreciatively. “I dunno…canaries are kind fat with short legs, right? You remind me of a cheetah.” He poked the speedster’s shoulder. “Need some spots.”

It was wrong to be attracted to your best friends, right? So, so wrong.

“What else makes you “horny”, as you put it, just like that? it’s got to be aphrodisiac.” He was pretty sure Dick wouldn’t have told him if the older Titans had gone through something like that.

On the other hand, maybe he would have. In great detail. He decided it was possibly not something he should be dwelling on and focused instead of Bai and Kon’s interaction. His lips curled up into a sm all grin at the eye-roll, already beginning to relax. Twenty-four and taller - and looking very good in yellow. “Not that there’s anything wrong with canaries,” Tim said. “But I’d agree with Kon.” If it had been Bai before the Speed Force aged her, canary might have been more fitting. As it was… “We could paint the spots on for you,” Tim said, face completely straight.

Bai danced back and forth, holding her fingertips to her mouth. “Hoooooooyou better not let BC hear what you said about canaries Kon!” she shouted gleefully. Her volume regulation went off when she was very excited, and normally people would remind her about indoor voices and stuff like that, but this was her bestest friends in the whole world and they were accustomed to her shouting sometimes.

She remembered something and stopped, a perturbed line deepening between her eyebrows. “I don’t think I could be a cheetah thoughyouguys,” she said seriously. “Once I was running through to Arusha and I raced a cheetah on the way there and you guys the cheetah died.”

Well, that was a downer. Kon exchanged glances with Tim. “…so, you were saying something about food?”

…moving swiftly on then, before Bai could get too upset. “You could show us around.” It was the fastest way to figure out exactly where everything was. “While remembering some of us don’t actually have superspeed,” he added after a moment, not sure if she would remember in her excitement.

“Hey good idea!” Bai nibbled a fingernail as she considered, buzzing and blurring. “How about we hit up the galley first? Or as some people call it, the cafeteria! It’snotreally supposed to be called a cafeteria, though, because the Watchtower is kindoflike a ship and everything. Follow me.”

Starting down a corridor, Bai paused and jogged in place for a while. “Hey you guys,” she said, “now that I’m twenty-four Iwasthinking I need to find a career or something? Since I can’t. Make money being a speedster. So I was thinking of architecture!” The jogging slowed incrementally as she studied their faces, wanting reactions.

Make money being a speedster. So I was thinking of architecture!” The jogging slowed incrementally as she studied their faces, wanting reactions.

Kon rolled his eyes, although the expression was fond. “I’ve told you like, a hundred times, Bai-Bai. Endorsements. How do you think I made all my money? I haven’t had to work since the 90s.”

“Or,” Tim interrupted, “you could find work as an architect.” Tim was, after all, all for his friends working. It could provide them with various real experiences that might become useful one day. “I think you’d do great. You’d be the fastest architect in the world, that’s for sure.”

Bai looked from one to the other. “Endorsements,” she repeated thoughtfully to Kon, then zipped in front of Tim with the same thoughtful face. “Architecture.” She clapped, once. “You both make good points! I wanted architecture so I could be an urban planner and make cities more speedster-friendly, but there’s nothing stopping me from licensing Kid Flash energy bars meanwhile!” She heaved a gusty, relieved sigh, open-mouth smiling at them both before resuming the walk down the corridor.

“This,” she enthused, “is why it’s awesome to have your two best friends be total opposites. It comes in handy when you’re making decisions!”

“Or make you crazy,” Kon offered dryly. He slung his arms around Bai and Tim’s shoulders anyway and hauled them towards the mess. “You know what? Sex trees can wait. I’ve got a hankering for ice cream.”

Tim rolled his eyes a little over-dramatically, but he didn’t stop Kon from leading them in the direction of the cafeteria. He wouldn’t mind ice cream, and it certainly sounded better than anything else that had been suggested so far.

Maybe, when Bai and Kon were both here, downtime wasn’t such a bad thing after all.
